American Brownie


A true favourite a moreish chocolate brownie.


  • 250 grams butter

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar

  • 1 cup plain flour

  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 tsp baking powder


  • Pre heat oven to 180C. Grease and line a sponge roll tin.
    Melt butter in a large saucepan to hold all ingredients. Mix in cocoa. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Add eggs and beat well using a wooden spoon. Sift flour and baking powder into the mix. Add vanilla and mix to combine.
  • Pour into a sponge roll tin. Bake for 25- 30 minutes or until brownie springs back when lightly touched. Cut into bars while still warm. Ice with chocolate icing if desired, or dust with icing sugar.
